The Beaches

Let’s face it! It’s likely that the main reason you are visiting Fort Walton Beach is THE BEACHES, and why not? The white, sandy shorelines of Florida’s Emerald Coast are among some of the most beautiful beaches in Florida–possibly the world! So do yourself a favor, and spend the day basking in the sun, swimming in the waves, and possibly even enjoying some water sports or boat excursions.

Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park

One the best ways to spend time in a beach town is at a place like the Gulfarium. It is fun, interactive, and a great way to entertain children and spend time as a family in the Fort Walton Beach area. The park, which is home to more than 1,000 marine animals, offers a variety of shows and exhibits that will appeal to visitors of all ages!

Air Force Armament Museum

The Air Force Armament Museum’s main building is located on Eglin Air Force Base, but it also includes exhibits at the nearby Hurlburt Field Training Site and Fort Walton Beach. The museum was established in 1988 to preserve the history of air armament and has since expanded its collection to include more than 16 aircraft and 2,000 pieces of equipment used during World War II through present day.

The museum offers a variety of exhibits including weapons systems from all branches of service, and a Vietnam exhibit.

Wild Willy’s Adventure Zone

If you’re looking for exciting, family-friendly entertainment, look no further than Wild Willy’s. It has a carousel and mini golf course, plus an outdoor water park for kids! The water park features slides, lazy rivers and even a pirate ship with cannons that shoot real water jets into the air. It also has an arcade, go carts and a frozen yogurt place.

The best part is that Wild Willys is open year round so you can enjoy the fun no matter when you visit the area!

The Boardwalk on Okaloosa Island

The Boardwalk on Okaloosa Island is an excellent choice to spend the evening relaxing. The boardwalk features a variety of restaurants, shops and entertainment options. Our favorite thing to do was grabbing a bite to eat at one of the restaurants and letting our little girl play on the playground right on the beach!

Indian Temple Mound and Museum

The Indian Temple Mound and Museum is a historical site in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. It is the largest mound in the southeastern United States and was built between 1000 and 1200 AD by people of the Fort Walton culture. The museum has exhibits on Native American life at the time of European contact, including artifacts found during archaeological excavations at the site. In addition to its research facility, it also has an outdoor area with what they call “the world’s largest arrowhead”, which weighs over 3200 pounds.

City of Fort Walton Beach Heritage Park and Cultural Center

The City of Fort Walton Beach Heritage Park and Cultural Center is located downtown on Wright Street in the heart of Fort Walton Beach. The park is open daily from 9am to 5pm and admission is free. The exhibits include a replica of a Seminole hut, a replica of a Civil War era fort and a Spanish fort. There are also interactive games for kids, including the “Fort Fun” playground with rope ladders, slides and tunnels for climbing.

Conclusion

We fell in love with the charm of Fort Walton Beach, and we know you will too. With all of these incredible activities and attractions, there’s something for everyone. Whether it’s petting stingrays at Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park or playing mini golf at Wild Willy’s Adventure Zone, there are so many ways to enjoy yourself while in town.
