On this trip, Aiken Adventures went to Wellington, Florida, a village west of West Palm Beach and 66 miles (106 km) from Miami. It has a population of 65,398 as of 2019 and is Palm Beach’s 5th largest municipality and the most populous village in the state. It has 31.4 sq miles, of which 31 sq miles is land and 0.3 sq miles is water. It is a family-oriented community and has a variety of places to visit and enjoy. There is lots of agricultural land here and horses. It is definitely an equestrian village, even being home to an international polo club. Peaceful Waters Wildlife Sanctuary
Peaceful Waters Wildlife Sanctuary is a 30-mile wetland park with 1,500 raised boardwalks and 1 mile of walking trails. It is open for groups and is great for nature photography. It shows a variety of species of plants and animals native to South Florida. It is actually in the middle of a large athletic complex, The Village Park Athletic Complex. The boardwalk trail to the entrance is actually about ¾ miles. It is open daily until dusk except for some holidays.
Tiger Shark Cove Park
Tiger Shark Cove Park has a great playground and an athletic complex offering 2 batting cages, 3 pavilions, 4 softball fields, and concessions. The playground is Leather’s playground designed by Village residents and built by hundreds of volunteers. The three pavilions are a small submarine, a small mermaid, and a large-sized one, all available for rental.
Twilight Green Market
Twilight Green Market is a super-friendly place to shop! Formerly known as the Twilight Green Market, it is now the Lakeside Market at Wellington Town Center. Only open on Friday evenings from 5-9 pm, they are the place to be on Friday nights for music, sunsets, family-friendly entertainment, food, shopping, and a family-friendly environment. It has a great community feel. Music streams from the gazebo and the locals are super friendly as you shop for clothing, food, and fresh produce. The market is pet friendly; please pick up after your pet. There is a new play structure along the promenade and you can pull your boat up to the docks along the Town Center Promenade.
Mall at Wellington Green
The Mail at Wellington Green has lots of super things to do! From Zumba to blood drives to the Kids Club to fashion shows, you will find something. The multi-theater movie plex has all the latest hits for you to enjoy. And there are several places to shop for jewelry, clothing, food, specialty items, and gifts. At the time of this article, there were 24 different restaurants inside of the mall. The mall itself is a blend of Mediterranean and local styles and is a premier shopping destination for South Florida residents and visitors. The two-level facility has famous stores such as Dillards, JCPenney, Ashley, Macy’s, and 150 specialty shops. Many customer amenities are offered such as free wheelchairs and stroller rentals, free Wi-Fi, spacious seating areas and kid play areas, and family restrooms.

There are many things to do in the village of Wellington. It has a casual, relaxing place that is very community oriented and welcoming.
